/ Erin CoxThe preschool years seem to be filled with such “gray area”. Do our 2, 3, and 4-year-olds just need to play, or do they do school work too? What should they know before kindergarten? Do they need to know anything?
We might hop on Pinterest hoping for the answer, only to walk away more overwhelmed than when we began. Perhaps we look into a curriculum but the cost is high, or it’s filled with worksheets and so many tasks – and this is all when we aren’t sure if it’s even necessary or “the best thing” in the first place! It can feel like we are living in a space of confusion and chaos when really we just want the best for our kids. Talk about overwhelming!
I’m here to encourage you that it should not and need not be overwhelming. There is a better place to live in your thoughts! You do not harm your child to start early nor do you harm your child to start late. You’re the mom - YOU know your child best.
Are they interested? Showing interest? Inquisitive? Perhaps you need focus and rhythm to your day - or do you see an opportunity you don’t want to miss? If so, you have FULL FREEDOM in Christ to incorporate natural and gentle education into your day.
However, if you want to start education out of fear that your child is missing out or getting behind or simply because you feel like you’re failing - wait a bit. Those aren’t reasons to start. Educating from fear or comparison won’t bring the gentle, natural, or fun results you’re longing for!
We want to invite you to check out our preschool curriculum. Our Teacher’s Guide is ALWAYS 100% free, but we want to give you the opportunity to grab the first two units from the Preschool Bundle, on us.
Formal, sit-down, worksheet-style learning isn’t ideal for a toddler. We believe their job is first and foremost PLAY- this should be 90% of their day (and often where most learning happens!). However, if you want some focus and intentional time with your child in your day, we think you’ll love it!
