Should you homeschool?
/I see you, mama. You're standing at the end of another homeschool year — or maybe at the edge of your very first one — and you're asking the big questions:
“Can I really keep doing this? Should I even try?”
You're tired. Maybe a little defeated. You’ve carried the weight of it all — the lessons, the meals, the toddler tantrums, the endless sibling squabbles, the special needs appointments, and the mess that never ends. You’ve probably done it all with more love than anyone will ever know… and more doubt than you ever expected.
I know this place well because I have lived it. (And am still living it now…)
A few years ago, I stood right where you are. And I quit.
I packed up the curriculum.
I enrolled my children in school.
I told myself it was the right choice.
For a time, it felt like relief. But deep down, an ache lingered — not because I had chosen something “bad,” but because I had walked away from something I was called to. It took time (and tears) to realize I hadn’t just stepped away from a method of education. I had stepped away from a calling God had gently and clearly placed on my heart.
Since then, here’s what I’ve learned:
You’re not failing because it’s hard. You’re just walking a hard, holy road. The doubts you’re feeling don’t disqualify you, instead they prove you’re deeply invested. And that ache you’re feeling isn’t for something easier? It’s for something lasting and eternal.
So, if you’re standing in that same crossroads now, let me gently ask you to pause and reflect:
Why did you start homeschooling in the first place?
What values led you to bring your children home?
What do you want your family culture to look like in ten years?
These aren’t checklist questions. They’re compass-setting ones. When I asked them of myself, I realized that my burnout wasn’t from homeschooling — it was from homeschooling from my own strength.
I had been chasing the wrong markers of success. I had been measuring myself against strangers on the internet instead of against the quiet conviction the Lord had placed in my heart. I thought I needed a new plan. What I really needed was a fresh vision — rooted in God’s grace and not my own striving.
That’s why Gentle + Classical exists. Not to give you a script, box you in, or promise an easy, stress-free path. But to equip you — not just your child.
Because when you understand the philosophy behind your homeschool — when you know why you’re doing this and how to live it out in your unique home — you don’t need someone telling you what to do every hour of every day. You begin to live and lead with quiet confidence. You stop trying to “catch up” to someone else’s ideal and start walking in obedience to the one God gave you.
If you're here wondering whether you should keep going, I want to leave you with this:
You do not need to be perfect to do this well.
You do not need every answer — just a willingness to keep asking the right questions.
You do not need a shiny planner, a perfect rhythm, or a “Pinterest homeschool.” You just need a path that aligns with your faith, your family, and the bigger “why” God placed in your heart.
And if you’re ready to explore that path — not to “do more,” but to walk with more clarity and peace — I’d love to show you how Gentle + Classical can help.
You're not alone, friend. We would be honored to walk this journey with you.
